The Lounge
Originally the ballroom, a specially designed sprung floor was installed during construction to accommodate the dancing. Here you'll find the portraits of Colonel Theodore Salvesen and his son, Captain Harold Salvesen. Col. Salvesen was an Honorary President of the Scottish Youth Hostels Association, and after his death his son gifted the castle to the Scottish Youth Hostels Association, complete with its contents and the estate. From this room you get another great view of the Kyle of Sutherland, including the Telford railway viaduct, built in 1874 to link the far north of Scotland to the rail network.
