Two original wooden bookcases stand on either side of the marble fireplace in the library. Originally lit by gas lamps on the walls, careful workmanship was required to run electrics through the stalactite like plasterwork on the ceiling to provide modern light. The family portraits surrounding the fireplace were originally in the Duchess's first floor Suite. Paintings of Dunrobin Castle, her previous residence, also feature heavily in this room. Looking out the windows you get a great view of the Kyle of Sutherland and the villages of Bonar Bridge and Ardgay in the distance.
Two coin-operated Internet kiosks allow you to keep up with all the news from family and friends as you travel around the area.
